Amy Laboe & Shannon Plourde coach the Washburn Fastpitch program. Here are important topics they would like to address:
Equipment - players must provide their own glove & footwear (athletic shoes for indoors & cleats for outdoors). If
you have a need, reach out to a coach or captain. For new players needing equipment, I recommend a visit to
Play-it-Again Sports for options and support in getting a glove and cleats at a reasonable cost. Washburn
provides the uniform. You may need to buy your own pants and socks
Booster fees - We ask families to contribute $150 to the Booster club each year to help pay for coaches, equipment,
uniforms, special field rentals, and more. If you cannot cover this cost, reach out to the Booster club. (See
names below.)
Spring Break – Players are expected to practice with their squad or the full team at our designated time and place
over Spring Break if they are in town. Weather and facility availability tends to drive this, which will be
determined at tryouts.
Games – Our Home Field is at Pearl Park. Due to lingering piles & muck from the ice rink, we play our games at
Bossen Park. If the field is still unplayable for even practice, we will do so at Todd Park or Bossen. ALL
games are on M-F and begin at 4:00 unless otherwise noted. See the of icial MPS schedule here.
Practice – We practice every weekday when not playing a game. Practice will run from 3:30-5:30 PM every
non-game weekday. The JV squad may practice from 3:45-5:30 due to middle schooler scheduling needs.
Communication – We will use GameChanger for all communication and scheduling, please download the app. If
you have any questions please reach out to one of the coaches, captains or team managers.
Transportation – We will provide buses for both home and away games. For home games, the buses will NOT
return students to Washburn, so players will need a ride home.
Commitment – The expectation is that players will prioritize WHS Softball until 6 PM on game days and 5:30 PM
on practice days. If you have an emergency or an engagement that cannot be moved, please let your coach(es)
know as soon as possible. WHS Games, Practice, and Team Events > 612 Practice.
Principles – The goal is to have fun, work hard, learn, and the rest will take care of itself. We are working hard to
develop not only athletic skills, but personal virtues that challenge and support one another to become better
versions of ourselves. Players will play and squad assignment will give everyone their best opportunity to
play at their level.
Squads - We field both Varsity & JV squads. Some players WILL move between squads at times.
Leadership – While we have two designated captains, we expect everyone to be a leader in some way. Learn,
recognize, and do what needs to be done to help everyone!
Parent Player Communication Protocol– Please see the WHS PPCP - this process is expected communication when players or parents have questions or concerns about their sport or a coach of their sport
Sign-up below if you are interested in playing and we will add you to our team communications!
